How We Measure & Size Our Garments

We've looked at many Sizing Charts and have developed the following chart which illustrates how we size our merchandise.
HOW WE SIZE OUR GARMENTS

Below are charts we use to illustrate how we list sizes for vintage clothing on our site. We use these charts as a guide to give our garments a modern day sizing standard. These charts are meant to be used for comparison only, as vintage sizes have changed throughout the years. These sizes (XS,S,M etc) are what we use in the titles of our listings. We will give the actual vintage labeled or marked size of a garment, along with the actual garment measurements, in the listing itself.

HOW WE MEASURE

For vintage clothing, the measurements are taken laying flat and unstretched.

We measure from side to side and then double the measurements for bust, waist and hips. Sleeves are measured from the seam at the shoulder to the edge of cuff. Shoulder to shoulder is taken from seam to seam on shoulders. Inseams are measured from hemline to crotch, rise indicates measurement from crotch to waistline.

How we measure

YOUR FIT

To find your fit, compare the measurements of a similar item you already have to the one you see on our site. The measurements provided in the listings on our site are for the garment itself, laid flat. Keep in mind you will need to account for comfort and ease of movement in your body measurements.

A close fitting garment needs about 2" of wearing ease so you can move and breathe. In other words, if your bust measures 36", a close fitting blouse should measure about 38" in the bust so you can wear it comfortably. Many people prefer their garments to be a bit looser, and so would require more ease. Items such as jackets and coats need even more ease, as you normally wear another garment under them.
